The origin of this gem's name (amethyst) is very peculiar, as it comes from the Greek "amethystos," translated as "not drunk, not getting drunk, preventing drunkenness." This is because in ancient times it was considered a powerful antidote to drunkenness. It was considered effective in nullifying or limiting the effects of wine.
